Urban Farm Program
Our Urban Farm Program is where hands meet soil, ideas take root, and youth build confidence through hands-on learning. Participants care for crops from seed to harvest, learning core skills in planting, soil health, composting, tool safety, and seasonal farm tasks.
More than a training ground, our farm is a community space—where young people collaborate, build friendships, and experience the joy and healing that comes from working with the land.
The program supports youth in discovering their strengths, developing leadership, and understanding how food, culture, and environment are deeply connected.
Educational Workshops
BYFC partners with local schools and community organizations to bring land-based learning directly into classrooms and communities. Through interactive workshops and activities, we explore topics such as food systems, climate resilience, soil health, seed saving, and culturally relevant crops. These sessions introduce young people to farming, environmental stewardship, and the connections between land, culture, and community.
Community Events
Community is at the heart of our work. Throughout the year, BYFC hosts events that bring families, volunteers, and youth together to celebrate culture, share knowledge, and build relationships. Our events and workshops include:
-
Seasonal planting days
-
Community harvest celebrations
-
Skill-building workshops (container gardening, composting, seed starting, and more)
-
Youth-led farm tours
-
Cultural food experiences and storytelling
These gatherings strengthen intergenerational connections, deepen community ties, and create accessible entry points for anyone who wants to learn, support, or get involved in local food systems.
